February 2013 Grand Knight’s Message
My Brother Knights,
On January 12th & 13th, we conducted our second Membership Blitz of the Columbian year. It was a very successful, thanks to the brothers that participated after each mass. I want to especially recognize our Deputy Grand Knight Nick Hernandez who oversaw this blitz and attended each mass in our efforts to bring new members to our council.
The recruitment for our newly formed LADIES AUXILIARY, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS GOOD SHEPHERD COUNCIL #8607, was also very successful in obtaining names of potential members. If you know a woman over 18 years of age who may be interested in joining, please contact me or the Deputy Grand Knight Nick Hernandez.
Unfortunately, I have to inform you that we are cancelling our council’s annual Chinese auction that was scheduled for March 22nd, due to the low volume of donations for the auction. Usually by this time we have collected over 200 items, as of Sunday January 20, we had collected less than 80 items. The Chinese auction was one of our main fund raisers for the Columbian year.
On April 19, we will be conducting a Sports and Memorabilia auction in the Fellowship Hall; we have already collected some great items including signed footballs by NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning, former running back of the NY Giants Brandon Jacobs, and other signed sports items as well as many unsigned sports items and collectables. We have sent out over 170 letters to professional and college sport teams seeking donations. It is imperative that this event be successful for our council to meet our financial and charitable obligations.. If you have any sport items you would like to donate, please contact myself or Fred Luebke PGK to arrange collection of your donations.
